Why Conserve?
The Long Green Land Trust is celebrating its 10th year. As neighbors in the Long Green Valley we live here because we value farms, open space, wildlife habitats and a life-style that supports these things. We are a mixture of farmers, horsemen, shepherds, vineyard growers, tree nursery growers, outdoor enthusiasts artists, small businessmen, birders and others who like the views of open skies over rolling fields and clear water in local springs. There is an awareness of the seasonal rhythms: a thrill on the first day of tilling in the spring, the long hours of baling hay in the summer and the harvests in the fall, often rushing to beat the first hard frost. The LGLT works with like-minded others to preserve this way of life by putting land in conservation. This maintains what we have and allows us to pass on the land to the next generation.
